Meet Matthew S.

Hi, I'm Matthew   

 

I’ve been making music for as long as I can remember—since I could walk, really. Growing up, music was always central in my home. My dad played in a rock band, and as a kid, I’d sneak downstairs past bedtime just to watch them rehearse. When no one was around, I’d hop behind the drum set and make as much noise as possible.

I started piano lessons in preschool with the principal marimba player from the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, then officially picked up percussion in middle school, following my brother’s footsteps. High school brought guitar into the mix, along with my first experiences teaching percussion to younger students. I knew then that music and helping others were my calling, which led me to major in Music Therapy at the University of Dayton.

Over the years, I’ve played in bands spanning rock, indie, jazz, and fusion, recording and releasing multiple albums along the way.

 

In 2020, I became a board-certified music therapist and have been practicing in Richmond, Indiana since 2021.

Beyond therapy, I’ve been teaching private lessons in piano, guitar, and percussion for over a decade. To me, music is a universal language, a way to connect, create, and inspire. Whether through therapy, teaching, or just jamming, I love helping others find their own musical voice.
