Meet Taya

I started taking piano lessons when I was 6 years old and I took lessons until I graduated high school. Because I am from Canada, I followed the classical piano training under the Royal Conservatory of Music and completed the Grade 10 (the highest) repertoire and theory levels.

 

Since about 9th grade, I started playing keyboard on my worship team at church and began to learn how to improv in a band setting, and eventually became the worship leader. During this time, I also learned to play a number of other instruments, including guitar, cajon, and violin. For me, music inspires me to take on my day with courage and optimism!

 

While I have always tried to fill my life with music and performance – including a stint in production – my passion for learning and trying new things led me to obtain my Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice (Honours) with a minor in Psychology. I worked in law enforcement in Canada for a couple years, but I decided that I wanted to keep pursuing academics, so I am currently working on my Juris Doctorate at the University of Dayton School of Law.

 

Because law school has kept me so busy, I have found myself neglecting my musical side. When I heard that Brandie was looking for someone to teach piano, I immediately jumped on the opportunity to be near a piano and share my passion for music with others!
